Astrology update February 2011

This month’s early New Moon on the 3rd is Chinese New Year. It also makes a conjunction to fiery Mars in Aquarius which gives rise to a forceful trend during the following lunar phase. We may already have experienced volatile situations as demands for new ideals are expressed during the first week of February. This Sun, Moon, Mars conjunction also includes the asteroid Ceres, named after the Goddess who represents agriculture and food crops. As the Moon waxes to Full during the first two weeks of February, it may bring to light the impending global food shortages and inevitable conflicts over essential resources. These issues along with our own domestic financial and personal struggles are a legacy of the Saturn opposite Uranus dynamic of the last few years. This month sees one of the major heralds of change occurring. The asteroid Chiron enters Pisces on the 8th for an eight year period. It last sojourned through this sign during the 1960’s. Chiron, discovered in 1977 takes the name of the centaur healer and represents the deep emotional, psychological or cultural scars that prevent us from fulfilling our potential. Chiron’s journey through our natal chart describes the recovery from these wounds. On a mundane level, Chiron in Pisces previously oversaw almost a decade of revolution which changed the aspirations of entire populations. The zodiac sign Pisces represents divine chaos or the absence of imposed order and definition. It dwells in the realm beyond materialism and draws its sense of self from mystical roots. Whilst Chiron was in Aquarius the emphasis has been on our social systems and discovering where there is a “healing” required within those structures. The next several years will inspire us to look beyond our physical existence for strength as we search for what will heal our ailing spirits.
Jupiter, growth and abundance, moves into a difficult square angle to Pluto, power and control, on the 25th. Expect to see a culmination of rising tensions. Situations will occur where conflicts of interest arise and agendas are at odds as one side wants to out do the other to gain advantage.
Uranus finally moves from Pisces into Aries early next month which marks an intensification of the critical dynamic of the next several years. This astrological sequence adds to the overall evolutionary pattern emerging during 2012 -2015 when revolutionary Uranus makes a challenging square to transformative Pluto. This occurs in the innovative Cardinal signs of Aries and Capricorn adding to the theme of a new era approaching.

The next Full Moon is at 29° Leo on 18 February at 8:36am and the next New Moon is at 14° Pisces on 4 March at 8:47pm

Astrology January 2011

The potential for beneficial opportunities and great leaps forward were written in the sky with a partial Solar eclipse in Capricorn and the Jupiter Uranus conjunction in Pisces on 4 January. Astrologically the New Year got off to a flying start. The Capricorn theme of personal endeavour or duty and responsibility combined with an enthusiasm for change will be evident as the year unfolds. The full effects of an eclipse can take several weeks or months to materialise but are often triggered by a swift moving planet passing over the zodiac degree it was in at the time. The first possibility is when quicksilver messenger planet Mercury does so on the 23rd just after Jupiter enters the feisty sign of Aries. This could be the time to speak out against an affront to individual freedom or perhaps you get news of someone taking a stand in defiance against a perceived injustice. The Sun finally leaves the Capricorn sign of the sea goat just hours after it shines its full light on the Moon. The Full Moon represents a culmination and provides a release point, a letting go or time of completion and endings as we prepare to move into the next phase. Potentials that were set in motion during the previous New Moon can come to fruition. This is especially true now as it falls at 29 degrees of the nurturing sign of Cancer. The last degree of a sign is traditionally considered to be critical or a decisive turning point. At the same time the Moon, strong in her own sign makes a beneficial trine aspect to both abundant Jupiter and freedom loving Uranus. So we can expect some fresh starts or maybe even an unexpected turn of events which leads us in a new and positive direction. This maybe one of those “lucky accident” moments that unburdens us of something we didn’t know how to get out of on our own. The month ends as Capricorn’s ruling planet Saturn, turns to move backwards through Libra for the next several weeks. This is when we have the chance to revisit the responsibilities, ties and commitments we have made to others and reconsider or re-negotiate the terms so they are sustainable and can withstand the test of time.

Astrology 2011

As we leave 2010 behind some of us may breathe a sigh of relief. It was a tough year all round. The tense cardinal T square that dominated the astrological pattern since 2008 has fulfilled its purpose. The financial, political and religious systems that we had in place have shown themselves to be broken, or at least in desperate need of an overhaul. Much of what we thought we were sure of in the world has to be redefined. We need to find new ways forward because going back isn’t an option. We start 2011 with an uncertain landscape. The astrology for this year reinforces the movement towards change and innovation with an absence of stressful aspects from the outer planets.

Jupiter, known as the great benefic, takes the leading role in the heavens this year. He represents our goals and aspirations, religion, philosophy, law, ideals and all that makes us bigger or better. The only negative side to the great planet is when under difficult planetary influences there is a tendency towards excess or too much of a good thing! This year though the theme is towards growth and increase in all that he touches. After a conjunction to Uranus in January, he makes a challenging square to Pluto in February, a difficult opposition to Saturn in March, an easy sextile to Neptune in June and a beneficial trine to Pluto in July and October. How these aspects affect you personally depends on where they fall in your own birth chart.

Using the 1949 chart (creation of the republic) for Ireland we see that this year the country is choosing or reaffirming its identity and path forward. This is a turning point, a time of transition and restructuring. Though the early year will be marked with changes, disruptions and adjustments as the months progress we can begin to see there are rewards for sacrifice, patience and perseverance.

A potent solar eclipse on January 4 marks the beginning of a 14 year cycle as it brings the expansive planet Jupiter together with innovative Uranus together in Pisces for the third and final conjunction. The previous two occasions last year were in June and September whilst making stressful aspects to Saturn and Pluto creating disruptive and volatile situations. Now in January we experience a harmonious trine to beneficial Venus instead. This is likely to highlight our true values with an urge to make a leap of faith or take a risk to achieve ‘being true to ourselves’. For Ireland as a whole this falls in the area of the chart which represents our communications especially amongst neighbours and kinfolk. It also makes a challenging aspect to Uranus in the chart which represents the people’s individuality and sense of freedom. This is a time for breaking out of old patterns, structures and routines and for discovering the uniqueness of the nation. Expect occasional periods of emotional excitability, unrest and instability. We will see more demonstrations which express the values of the country and an increase in radical activities which voice the desire for reform or revolution.

During February there is a need to look closely at the problems in the property market as Jupiter challenges Pluto on 25th and causes stresses in the global economy. Also with pressure from big finance the nation could feel the burden as Saturn opposes Ireland’s Sun. There may be a departure or break in leadership as politicians face up to individual responsibilities.
March is the time to get a shoulder behind the obstacle and give it a gentle shove. We are at another new cycle point indicating social and political change. On the 28th Jupiter is opposite Saturn which represents the established status quo. This half way mark in the great Jupiter Saturn cycle coincides with the Mars in Ireland’s chart. Successful action can be achieved if there is enough determination. This is an excellent business period, or time for initiating enterprises and starting new projects. It is also one of the best transits possible for making decisions and negotiating deals, just be sure to avoid the "get-rich-quick schemes". A strong and assertive effort to put ideals into action is called for.

During April or by the end of May we could well have taken that leap of faith. We certainly will have turned a corner and found new leadership. Also there is sense of invigoration as exciting potentials for enterprise emerge. Priorities are decided. Old contracts are torn up either metaphorically or literally and there seems to be hope on the horizon now. This is a quiet period astrologically but things are still happening in our daily lives and this is a chance to feel that some good work has been done.

June and July bring two more solar eclipses. On June 1 there is a positive aspect to Saturn which provides realism and stability and this is reflected in Ireland’s chart. On July1 the eclipse is followed on 7th by Jupiter making the first of three harmonious aspects to Pluto. This suggests the beginning of a phase in which a new style of business ventures or projects can prosper. These are likely to be successful when built on sound sustainable principles. During this time it is important to guard against any over speculation or false optimism. Non material gains are highlighted during these summer months with a reforming of social, spiritual and moral ideals.

Towards the end of July we may see some more unrest as the need to assert the individuality of the nation becomes an issue. There could be power struggles in several countries worldwide during August as the fight for control of resources reaches a peak. There maybe some hints of the issues we will have to face over the next few years as Uranus moves closer to making a difficult square aspect to Pluto. These undercurrents herald the movement towards a new social political balance globally.

The autumn months of the year don’t bring any major astrological events and the job of reforming our civil organisations continues. The mood is generally one of patience and perseverance with a good amount of constructive optimism thrown in. Ireland will continue to adjust to its new position in life and refine its vision for the future. Jupiter makes its third trine to Pluto on October 28 and the process of revitalising the social, financial and welfare systems towards their new potential has been firmly established.

The fourth solar eclipse of the year occurs in Sagittarius on November 25 and signals another ending of an era as it makes way for the next phase. Ireland has been through the first stages of re-inventing itself and has a clearer idea of the way forward. The next few years will see many other countries taking their own steps towards reclaiming their identity and integrity as the rebalancing process continues into 2012.

Astrology for April 2010 Pluto retrograde

This month sees two planets turn retrograde. A planet is said to be in retrograde motion when it appears to travel backwards from our earthly perspective. All the planets do this periodically and the faster moving bodies do it more frequently. The Sun and Moon, also known as the Luminaries are the exception and always move in a direct or forward motion. Astrologically a planet in retrograde will express itself in a more inward and personal way.
Mercury will be in a retro phase from 18 April through to 11 May. Mercury is the planet of communication, acting like quicksilver, fast and hard to pin down. It also rules local travel and our thinking process. Although it has become popular to expect everything to go wrong during a Mercury retro phase this is far from the truth of the event. The slowing down and backward motion provides us with an important chance to re-evaluate, re-negotiate or re-consider where we might otherwise have pressed ahead only to have to return to it later. Use this phase to catch up with the paperwork.
The slow moving Pluto is also about to turn retrograde, 7 April through to 14 September. The nature of this heavyweight ‘planet’ is to purify and transform all that’s not working towards our best interests. It does this from within and will often bring to light previously unrecognised problems that have been blocking our progress. Pluto acts as a purging agent and can sometimes feel uncomfortable. We are often quite attached to the things, habits, beliefs, relationships or structures that need to be cleared out to make way for a new and improved version! This is a great time to undertake any kind of psychological therapy, diet cleanse or detox programme. Pluto turning retrograde in Capricorn will remind us that our outer world is only as good as our inner world and that there is work to be done. Specifically it will show us where things are not working within our social systems, governments, financial and other institutions as a result of our collective human failings. Though we may have already seen the result of failures in our social structures we may not have seen much change in their way of operating. This important retrograde period is a big ‘reality check’ and will initiate a deep reconsideration about the long term sustainability of these organisations. Attention will have to be given to our personal social responsibilities and obligations to the wider community. During this Pluto retrograde phase we will see the beginnings of necessary change at the very grass roots of our society.

Astrology for March 2010

The Month starts in the wake of the “full on” Full Moon of February. With the Sun conjunct mighty Jupiter there was the feeling of it all being a bit extreme. Big events grabbed our attention and seemed to bowl us along as the high energy reached a peak. The rest of the month looks like it will be quite eventful too. A whole new wave of energy is released as Mars begins its forward motion again on the 10th. This fiery planet represents our drive towards our goals, desires and achievement. Whilst Mars, our warrior energy has been moving backwards there has been the need to postpone things or wait with some impatience. There maybe reason to be pleased that you didn’t push forward as the chance to re assess situations now proves its usefulness. Try to use the days around the 10th when Mars is at a standstill to gather your resources and don’t allow frustrations to turn into confrontations. People with planets in the first degree of the fixed signs, Leo, Scorpio, Aquarius and Taurus are particularly affected. As we move towards the New Moon on the 15th life might seem to be buzzing with news, ideas, conversation and revelation. Both Mercury and Uranus join up with the Sun Moon combination to form a very sparky dynamic in mystical Pisces. Mercury is quicksilver and always flitting from one thing to another, making connections and bringing new information whilst Uranus can act like a lightning bolt and give “eureka” moments. Expect fast witty exchanges as the whirlwind energy whips up new thoughts and exciting future plans. More new beginnings are possible as the Sun makes its annual entry into the first cardinal sign of Aries at the Spring Equinox on 20 March. The start of the new season is marked by a tense combination of planets that echo the transforming qualities of the whole year. Both Mercury and Uranus together with the Sun receive strong challenging aspects from Pluto and Saturn. To get the best from these powerful influences remain centred and avoid being drawn into arguments of ideology or conflicts of interest. Use the energy to tap into a creative stream of inspired thought whilst testing insights with sound reason. If you can reach up to embrace the “bigger picture” rather than focus on personal trivia, then you have achieved something worthwhile.

Astrology for February 2010

Mars and Saturn are known as the two “malefics” in traditional astrology. This is partly because they are the planets most likely to cause us trouble. Both are currently in retrograde, or seeming to travel backwards. Mars changes to forward motion once more in early March whilst Saturn turns again at the end of May. This is a period when we have to stop trying to make “stuff happen” and review what has already occurred. If we try to push ahead with our projects, deals or enterprises, chances are we will have to return to the planning stage soon anyway. Saturn represents business generally, rules, plans, strategy, structure, “the system” and authority. This is our chance to press pause and take stock. Rethink your plans and renegotiate your contracts or commitments now. Rewrite rules and amend regulations. Repair structures etc. Mars as the planet of action, retrograde, means we can examine our past actions and reconsider the consequences. This gives us the benefit of hindsight whilst we can still do something about it. Personal energy is at a low point and our focus is inwards. If we don’t like the mess we find ourselves in or the restrictions that “bad” decisions have placed on us then these few weeks are our time to work out a new strategy so we can do it differently when Mars and Saturn start to move forward again.
Saturn and Mars act as a backdrop to this month whilst the highlights occur at the two major Moon phases. The Sun conjuncts Neptune at the New Moon on 14 February. This might add a romantic glow to St Valentines day. Neptune can blurr the edges of our perception for good or bad. Joined with the Sun which is our vitality and essence or identity we can become disorientated, confused or just a bit woolly. The New Moon is the start of a new cycle and a good time to set a new course but it might not bode well for clear forward direction. Yet Neptune can also blurr distinctions in a beneficial way, dissolving boundaries that set us apart form others. A great deal of compassion or empathy can be experienced now. Placed in altruistic Aquarius we could see people moved to various humanitarian acts of kindness. We can afford to be fairly optimistic with the great benefic Jupiter, now very happy in its own sign, Pisces. The Sun moves to join Jupiter at the Full Moon phase on 28 February. Expansive Jupiter conjoined with the brilliance of the Sun at a time which is a natural climax in the Sun-Moon cycle could mark a major moment. Expect it to be big and bold. Jupiter is intrepid in its determination to move into new territory and will sometimes be carried forward on a wave of righteous belief in its cause. The energy will be vibrant and expectations grand. It’s certainly a good moment to manifest some of your highest ideals.

Forecast for 2010 & the Future for Ireland, an Astrological Outlook

The Astrology of 2010

The Astrology of 2010 shows us that it is not just another year. As the leading governments of the world resolve for us to recuperate from the recession, our personal lives are changing at an accelerating pace. This year prepares the way into 2012 and beyond. During these next few years our way of life as we now know it, will be radically transformed to embrace a new paradigm of thought and social conduct.

As 2009 drew to a close there was a general sense of having come through something. It was a difficult year for us at home and far worse for many in other parts of the globe. If you’re still here then it means you must have survived. Throughout last year the most powerful astrological configurations of the first decades of this century have been shaping up. Most of us have seen a huge change in our everyday lives as the “boom to bust” set in. It’s been hard to make plans for the future as the present circumstances are demanding that we give them our best attention. We’ve begun to acknowledge the reality of the economic situation which started to reveal its hard hitting impact in late 2008. Since then there has been a lot of water under the bridge – in many senses! For 2010 the main theme is ending the old and beginning the new. We reach a critical peak in a pattern that continues to play out and set the scene for the next several years. A dominant and tense T-square formation involves the potent planets Saturn, Uranus and Pluto. This rare and significant configuration activates three vital degrees in our Zodiac. This is a momentous year for us all.

A Critical Time for Ireland

While Saturn opposes Uranus in the sky they are both square to Pluto and they each touch critical points in the 1949 chart for Ireland. Saturn the traditionalist is holding the position of authority and public status. Uranus is the revolutionary and is making its opposition from the “grass roots” level of the chart. Pluto is the seat of power between them, challenging them both and it sits directly on Irelands Moon which represents the mood and response of the nation.

The first of five Saturn Uranus oppositions was during 2008 in Mutable signs Virgo and Pisces. This created the changeable conditions we’ve seen through 2009. The final opposition of 26 July is at zero degrees of Aries and Libra. These points mark the spring and autumn Equinox. Together with the Solstice points of Cancer and Capricorn they make up the Cardinal cross of the Zodiac. Cardinal signs mark the seasons and signify new trends, fresh starts and renewal. People with personal planets here will be most strongly affected by the transformation. This complex astrological pattern symbolically represents a dramatic period of upheaval and a turning point for the majority of the world’s population in which political, social, cultural, and economic challenges of the last decades reach a peak and demand resolution. The stresses involved in this dynamic will ensure we can’t carry on repeating our mistakes. We have to find a new way forward now. This is the beginning of a new era.

A New Cycle of Experience

The last time we saw a similar pattern was during the early 1930’s when the major financial systems of the world experienced a collapse. What followed was the Great Depression, which then led to a radical new direction in many world governments.

During 2010 though, we have another dimension to the configuration which suggests this is not just a repeat performance. From mid April, Jupiter joins up with Uranus in this hard aspect formation. Both planets will be moving back and forth between Pisces and Aries through to 2011. Pisces and Aries are the end and beginning of the zodiac reinforcing the theme that we are moving into a new cycle of experience.
To fully understand the astrological significance of the momentous events taking place throughout this year we need to look at the key players and their positions in a little more depth.
Jupiter - Uranus
Jupiter is the planet of expansion, opportunity and speculation. The big planet is generally beneficial to all it encounters bringing good fortune and optimism. Increase is a good description of its action. Jupiter’s urge to increase can also lead us to excess and overindulgence or rash and foolhardy risk taking. The influence of Uranus also makes a risk taker but with a different twist. He will fight fearlessly for the freedom to be an individual. A rebel, he is capable of overthrowing the existing regime without a care for what is discarded in the name of the cause. Uranus can be a sudden bolt from the blue that shakes things out of a rut. It can be eccentric and stimulate thinking outside the box. Jupiter and Uranus in combination are a mighty force for change. This pairing can create entrepreneurship, individualistic thinking, ingenuity and long range speculation but can also represent radical extremism in all its guises. Watch out for a major scientific leap or breakthrough this year that will change our thinking and transform our lives for the future. Whilst in the sign of Pisces there is an imaginative element or otherworldly quality. This can vary from the inspired to the escapist. In Aries the energy is very different. There is a strong competitive and assertive energy which doesn’t take much time to think of consequences. It’s all action, impulsive headstrong and forceful. As this pair move into Aries and team up in early June expect some sweeping and extreme responses to the old established order which Saturn represents.
Saturn
Saturn also represents due care, responsibility and hard work. He is the ‘party pooper’ who opposes any extravagant or ‘accumulation at any cost’ attitude of the reckless Jupiter-Uranus in Aries combination. Sometimes he operates out of fear of change and sometimes it’s to prevent a disaster. Though whenever Saturn makes an appearance you can be sure there are hard lessons to learn. The lessons are described by Saturn’s journey through Virgo and into Libra. In Virgo since 2007 the lesson has been about our understanding of the Planet Earth as nurturer of life. The environment, our natural resources, food quality, and our vulnerability to the climate have all been major issues in the news headlines. At the end of 2009 Saturn moved into Libra but will just turn back to Virgo briefly this spring. The Saturn in Libra lesson is all about our relationships with others. Libra has equality and sharing on its mind. The sign of the scales is weighing things up and seeing how far it tips in one direction. We will have to address the balance now. Global inequalities will be shown up, and closer to home we have work to do too.
Pluto
At right angles to the Saturn opposite Jupiter-Uranus combination is Pluto. His position is challenging both ends of the argument. Pluto is symbolic of our two worlds, the inner, underworld or private life and our outer public life. Pluto’s dual characteristic is there to challenge our will. It shows us where we hold on to power to keep control and highlights where we have failed to take responsibility by giving our power away. It brings to light what we have hidden. Deep shame, guilty secrets and deception are all exposed. Any concealed self-seeking behaviour is revealed in its relentless task of purging and transforming. In Capricorn, Pluto is methodical and measured, he is practical and patient and he has a goal. The goal is that through diligence, utilising the tested and true methods which honour mankind’s higher principals, a more sustainable, durable way of living will be established. With Pluto you can choose to go along willingly or resist and struggle painfully. Whichever way you choose, Pluto is taking you anyhow.
The Year Unfolds
The year starts whilst energetic Mars is retrograde (appears to move backwards). It’ll be hard to get things moving. There’s a sense of enthusiasm to make a fresh start but this is hampered until Mars starts forward again on 10 March. Saturn also goes retrograde on 13 January and we revisit some of the same issues we had last autumn. If what we fear or can’t face has been suppressed and buried then the Saturn-Pluto combination forces it into the light.
Saturn started to make this difficult square angle to Pluto last October and repeats it in late January and Mid August. It insists that the dirty secrets of any underhand, self-seeking or exploitative behaviour are ousted from within, exposing those in authority that once held our respect. People used to being in control will resist for as long as possible but the power of Pluto ensures that we might see more figures in authority, the church and politics under close scrutiny. Many who feel let down will abandon their church, institution or political party and become increasingly cynical.

Jupiter in Pisces

Jupiter encourages growth and moves into his own sign of Pisces on 18 January staying there until early June. In compassionate Pisces we’ll notice a greater tolerance for differences, a better understanding of human frailties and shortcomings. In Ireland, throughout the first half of the year there will be a strong emphasis on strengthening community ties. People will make more of their immediate surroundings, travelling less distance and getting more involved in local networks. We could see an increase in local initiative groups. Goodwill extends to our neighbours as we find new ways to share and give needed support.

Low Point for Ireland
When Saturn Squares Ireland’s Moon in mid March there is no doubt that life is not a bed of roses and the country is feeling it. The demands of the country’s financial responsibilities may seem heavier than ever and there are no external supports. The mood is low. People have lost faith in their leaders and pressure builds for the government to take whatever practical steps are necessary to move forward. This will create tension as there is still a need to rake over the past before we can move on.

With Saturn moving over the area of Ireland’s chart which signifies our political and financial status the emphasis is on the task of rebuilding and restoring the country’s damaged economy. During March through to May, attention will tend to turn towards internal affairs as the country tries to understand and make sense of its new direction. There are clashes as the government traditionalists want to continue to prop up the financial institutions and the reformers want radical changes to take place. There will be difficulties later if those in power don’t give some time to re-inventing our identity as a country and listening to the “common man”.

Sustainable Growth

As Ireland continues to work harder than ever before to strengthen its position the whole population will shoulder more of the responsibility. Mid March and early August events could bring home the reality of the situation. Sacrifices made now will be worth it in the long-term. The country’s leaders need to act responsibly and honourably at this time, because our international reputation is at stake. If those responsible fail in their duty there is a very real danger of falling from grace and damaging our political and financial standing in the eyes of others.

During late March and late July we have the opportunity for careful and sustainable growth. This can be a good time for expanding in business, or investing in property or real estate whilst there is a good balance between caution and optimism. This is when it is less likely to over-extend either financially or physically.

During mid June we experience the beginning of a new fourteen year cycle of opportunity. Although the effects of the new phase won’t become apparent for several years, now is the time to invest in entrepreneurship, innovation and sustainable long term projects. Throughout June there is a greater sense of optimism and investments are better rewarded. We have the opportunity to make long term investments in energy technologies, using our natural resources and developing community initiatives.

Social and Economic Struggle

The lunar eclipse of June 26 at 4° Capricorn conjuncts Pluto and activates the approaching grand cross involving the Sun, Mercury, Jupiter, Uranus, the Moon, and Saturn - all within 5° of the four cardinal points. This is a momentous event and likely to have a far reaching impact on the global situation as new information, technologies and discoveries show us new possibilities. The full effect of the eclipse will emerge as events unfold in various places throughout the world during late September.

During July and August, Saturn and Uranus will be completing the last of their five oppositions. At the same time, Mars will have just entered Libra to join Saturn whilst Jupiter moves into Aries with Uranus. This is the major Astrological configuration of the year and although it acts as a trigger point the events during these months will be unpredictable and unexpected. Expect though, a major social and economic struggle between the new and the old, the traditional and the radical, in which both sides spar and harden against each other. It is very much a time to choose one and leave the other behind. Prejudices increase, along with paranoia and general fear of the unknown, leading many to cling to false idols either defending or advancing them dangerously. What is needed now is a movement that leads us to what is “right” and also profitable. In the enthusiasm for a new cause or idea a little too much or ill-placed force can undermine everything. There is a general climate right now for making judgment errors. Unfortunately once made, there is usually no going back.
For Ireland the struggle is between the needs of its domestic life and its global presence.

New Innovations

Whilst Jupiter makes its retrograde journey from 23 July to 18 November across the area of the chart for Ireland that deals with communications don’t be surprised if you detect a lot of “spin” and insincere talk coming from every direction. This is a time when any spurious talk becomes apparent and the current mood could be quite damning. Jupiter moving backwards is also a great opportunity to do restoration work or revitalise failing businesses but not great for initiating new enterprises. There may be the need to put a lot more investment into projects but don’t expect the returns during this phase.

During late September and into December there is a chance to review and rebuild. Ireland has now been forced to realise the burden of national debt. This in turn is a challenge to rejuvenate the country’s economy. The major financial institutions will now have to operate in favour of smaller business and community ventures.
Into early 2011 there will continue to be struggles as opposing forces grapple with new ideas versus old systems. Many long range sustainable projects and new innovations start to emerge.

By the time Uranus forms a square to Pluto in Capricorn in 2012-2013 there will have been tremendous cultural, social and political upheaval which will further transform governments and political structures. The paradigm shift is underway.

Triple Conjunction at Midwinter Solstice December 21 2009

The first Full Moon this month is at 10° Gemini on the 2nd December at 7:31 am. The New Moon is at 25° Sagittarius on the 16th December at 12:02 pm. The second Full Moon is at 10° Cancer on the 31st December at 7:14 pm and is also eclipsed.

This December we get to see two Full Moons and the culmination of a planetary conjunction that has been part of this year’s theme. The month begins with Uranus starting its forward motion once more. It has been in retrograde since early July and this change of energy occurs just in time for the Full Moon on the 2nd. The Uranian spark could bring quite a lively addition to the already busy Gemini Moon. Expect the unexpected particularly when it comes to messages, conversations and communications generally. The last New Moon of the year in Sagittarius on the 16th is a good time to consider your direction for the New Year ahead. The darkest days of the year approach with the winter solstice on the 21st. Focus is on the inner life, review progress, make plans and plant the seeds of aspiration. The Solstice also sees the final phase of the triple conjunction that has been a major astrological theme in 2009. Jupiter connects with Neptune at 25° Aquarius before moving on into Pisces in January. The first two conjunctions were on May 27 and July 10. Jupiter takes about 12 years to orbit the sun, and Neptune requires about 165 years to complete one revolution. The last time this occurred was in 1843. This year Chiron was closely involved with the union. Those born with critical points or planets between 22–29 degrees Aquarius, Leo, Taurus and Scorpio experience the dynamic most strongly. Aquarius, the sign of the water bearer represents the flow of wisdom from the divine wellspring, the sum of our shared experience. It’s an impersonal sign that represents the principles of equality for the masses and the possibility of a bright new world and future caring more for the good of all than individual needs. Sometimes though it becomes fixated with its own ideals or opinions believing they are the only and right version of democracy, human rights or freedom. In mythology Chiron had extraordinary powers to heal others, but couldn’t heal himself. In Astrology he represents the emotional, physical and mental pain and suffering that is part of the human condition and also the sincere urge to help those most affected. Other worldly Neptune inclines us towards romantic thoughts, forgiveness, ideals and the need to escape into a place without pain, deception, delusion or brain washing. Throw Jupiter the expansive planet of hope and optimism into the mix and we get the potential for something quite magical at least or at worst, misguided altruism. This significant planetary trio is urging us to deal with issues of our own wounded self-esteem and stop inflicting pain on others through over compensating for our perceived inadequacies and personal delusions. Working towards a more inclusive and brighter future in which we know how to manage our social and cultural affairs is the prompt. Difficult emotions can be resolved as an awareness of negative patterns in relationships from the past become apparent. We glimpse our true potential but be aware of the inclination to expect too much of ourselves and of others. If our expectations are too high we may feel we were deceived when our human side lets us down again. Resist the knee jerk urge to rebuild the defences once more, allow a new possibility to emerge.

New Moon Horoscope December 2009

Aries
One of your greatest talents is your ability to tune in to the deepest emotional signals in other people. If you can face your inner emotional fears now, you’ll help guide others through theirs. You have the courage to be honest with yourself which encourages others to be honest about their failings too and you’ll be appreciated for the support. Start this next phase with the determination to throw out some old worn out ways and unproductive thinking. This is a time of renewal for you, be prepared for some real transformation.

Taurus

Your enormous receptivity to the influence, problems and needs of others inclines you to a listening job in which you can give support and nourishment. As you can be rather over-sensitive to the demands of others you have to take care not to become drained by emotional contacts. You may make too many compromises for the sake of emotional peace. Try to find the balance in your most important relationships. You can be very sincere when you want to be but it has to go both ways or you’ll have reason to feel resentful.

Gemini
Emotional problems can arise at work because of some oversensitivity and unconscious overreaction. Be aware of where you feel your own security is threatened by change and adapt before it happens. You’ll find yourself working on behalf of others now and wanting to be at your best and give your all for to improving conditions, either at work or some other important area of your life. Consider which long term projects will give you the greatest sense of personal achievement and know that your mind body and spirit are being looked after.

Cancer
There is no time like the present when it comes to having fun, entertaining friends or relaxing with a loved one. Romance in all its forms is demanding to be indulged. Your tendency to yearn for the security of love and intimacy is at a peak and you might find yourself trying to match reality to your fantasy with disappointing results. Begin with a flourish but remember that a more lasting satisfaction comes from creative achievements of all kinds and can be found in simpler pursuits. Whatever you do make sure you have plenty of time to daydream between social events.

Leo
The bonds to the past may seem stronger at the moment. There is plenty of opportunity to reconsider people and places that have been important in your past. Fundamental security is a major preoccupation for you especially now and you’ll be thinking of ways that you can bring something of your past experiences into the future. You function best when there is peace on the home front, but you might find yourself distracted by family worries or be concerned with matters of the home, land or property. Start your year with expressing some of those deep inner tensions that you’ve allowed to build up.

Virgo
When you communicate, you’ll find you do so with feeling and conviction. You have a compelling persuasive aura about you now and you are well suited to situations where communication is essential. It may be your job to sort the wheat from the chaff and dispel confusion over certain matters. This is no time to be taking it easy because your skills are required in many areas and friends and neighbours will benefit from your knowledge. Remember to maintain a good pace and you’ll have a lot to be grateful for if you are prepared to be generous in sharing yourself.

Libra
You have a strong appreciation of what has value, and what doesn't, and as such you can achieve success providing for the basic needs of others. The threat of economic insecurity can mean that you are staying longer than necessary in an unsatisfactory situation. Wise decisions are based on knowing what is right for you and not on always playing it safe. Remember that the talents and abilities you have built up over the years are your security and if you put them to good use you will find the stability you’re reaching for.

Scorpio
Trust and intimacy are primary concerns right now and you might have cause to test the bonds with the people closest to you. Emotions and personal attachments are central issues in your life now, though it may be that you are the one stretching the limits. You want to have the chance to make some kind of statement about who you are and what sets you apart from others rather than what you share in common. Start with an identity reality check. Be sure you know who you are first and then get out there and let everyone else know

Sagittarius
At this time you have a deep longing to seek refuge in something which transcends everyday life. Perhaps this will manifest itself in creative, musical or artistic work which enables you to merge your spirit with the greater ocean of the collective spirit. You do not function well in the hurly-burly of the market place and need to take time out to appreciate your talents away from distractions. This is a time of reorganising yourself on a subtle level and it’ll take awhile to become aware of the changes. Begin this phase slowly with plenty of time to delve into that impressive imaginative resource that is your inner world.

Capricorn
Satisfaction comes when you have a sense of belonging to the people you work with, and know that they also appreciate you. This is a time when you might be thinking more about how you and your ideals fit in with the people around you. You must realise how you often become quite attached to pet projects and have some difficulty letting go of the reins when other people need to take over. Use this opportunity to make a positive move towards openness and you may discover a talent for working with people in groups, especially if this involves caring or humanitarian projects.

Aquarius

You make important emotional bonds to people you work with, and you may find yourself playing a much more significant role, even being out in the public eye as you’re especially able to appreciate what is wanted now. Remember though, it could be wise to develop a certain emotional detachment, so that you feel less vulnerable. You want to get ahead and be appreciated and now is the time to dream up your wildest dreams and take risk of following them. Remember that everything you achieve has to be imagined first.

Pisces
You are hungry for understanding and insight, and will probably find yourself keen to read or study a great deal to attain further knowledge or wisdom. It's a great time for planning, cooking up new schemes, or rearranging the way you look at things. Patterns you establish now do not need detailed follow-up until later, so you can stick to generalities until you've got it all properly roughed-out. Don’t be surprised if you find an opportunity to travel or link with foreign cultures as there are valuable exchanges to be had. You have much to learn over the next few months.

Planet news for November 2009

The month of November starts with the Full Moon in Taurus on the 2nd. The Taurean is a creature of earthy sensuality and taking time to share a leisurely meal with friends and loved ones is a worthwhile occupation this week. The gentle energy brought in by the Moon will be a welcome reprieve from the fraught and tense dynamic felt since the last week in October. Feisty Mars in Leo has been in a stressful aspect to the Sun in intense Scorpio bringing frustration and challenges to our personal efforts. This influence continues to ease and will have passed by the time of the New Moon. By then we should be beginning to enjoy the beneficial effect of Mars in Leo which continues until early June 2010. Energetic Mars is at his best in an enthusiastic fire sign and in Leo is extrovert and playful. This is a good time to put your energy into new projects that are self promoting, providing the opportunity for greater self respect or much needed appreciation from others. Both Mars and Saturn are usually considered to be the most potentially destructive planets, known as the two malefics in traditional Astrology. During the next months they are both behaving well. Whilst Mars is easy in Leo, Saturn is at his happiest in Libra. He will be transiting this sign from now until October 2012. In Libra, Saturn, known as Lord of Karma, becomes his most dignified self. This is an opening to clear up old karmic debts and make great personal progress in our life lessons through the way we cooperate with others. The sign of Libra emphasises our relationships and the way we include others as equals in our lives. All dealings with another involves some form of contract even if it’s unspoken or unconscious. We always have an agreement to play a certain role or fulfil certain needs in our social interactions whether as an employer/ employee a business association or an intimate partnership. During this time we will need to take greater personal responsibility in all of life's contracts. This includes the "contracts" we make with our self as we re evaluate our personal position in the world. Use the Scorpio New Moon to dig deep into your inner world and reveal what needs your attention now.

Full Moon in Aries & Jupiter turns direct October 2009

This month sees a change of focus after what has been a series of frustrations, delays and breakdown in communications experienced over the summer season. The Full Moon in Aries during the first week of October brings emotional tensions from last month’s difficult New Moon to a head. Be careful not to react to situations with “knee jerk” responses that might be regretted later. There will be an urge to press forward and start new ventures but it would be better to be patient and wait until more favorable influences are initiated during the third week of October. Mercury returned to its forward motion at the end of September, but continues to travel slowly for the next few weeks. Whilst Mercury and Venus remain in Virgo opposite Uranus, the touchy, prickly or argumentative responses likely at the moment could persist into the second week of the month. We will continue to find our attempts to get things moving a struggle until the New Moon phase. On the 10th Mercury moves into Libra quickly joined by Venus on the 14th followed by the New Moon on the 18th. This will ease some of the recent stresses as the sign of Libra brings relationships into focus with the emphasis on harmony and co-operation. Mars has been transiting through cautious Cancer and moves into Leo on the 16th where he will be more able to act effectively in the warmth of a fire sign. The “greater benefic” Jupiter has been in retrograde motion (appearing to travel backward) since mid June and finally turns forward again on the 13th. During this period we will have had cause to consider our personal integrity and honesty as righteous Jupiter has focussed its energy on our inner life. We may have re-evaluated our goals and questioned the significance of our closest associations. Now we can begin to turn that recent knowledge into positive action as we reclaim the essential relationships and values we need to progress. Although Jupiter will be moving slowly until it picks up speed in mid November this added energy release will be the beginning of the new phase for the autumn and winter months. The restrictions that have been felt over the last year and particularly the last few months can be loosened and some people will finally break free from emotional hindrances that have held them back until now. During the New Moon in Libra our attention is focussed on the quality of our social interactions and personal relation ships. With Venus in Libra making a very favorable aspect to both Jupiter and Neptune in Aquarius later in the month we can expect some positive and welcome advances in the way we relate to those who are important to us as well as an easing of tensions in the wider community. This could bring opportunity for negotiations or collaborations which will be of benefit to all concerned.

This month’s Full Moon is at 12° Aries on the 4 October at 7:11 am and the New Moon is at 25° Libra on the 18 October at 6:34 am

Saturn in Virgo conjunct New Moon September 2009

September is traditionally the month of the harvest. Both Full and New Moon phase occur in the sign of Virgo who is associated with the goodness of the earth and the Goddess as nurturer of life. The Sun leaves Virgo on the 22nd and moves into Libra as it passes the equinox point heading for the Midwinter Solstice once more. This month’s big story though is Saturn conjunct the Sun/Moon at New Moon on the 18th combined with the opposition between Saturn and Uranus which is exact again on the 15th. This opposition has been the backdrop to current events for the last year and will continue through to autumn 2010. The first exact opposition was on November 4 2008, the day of the latest US elections. This month sees the third of five exact “hits” at 25° Virgo/Pisces. People with personal planets in that area of their chart will be strongly affected. We will all be touched by this influence and the area of life where it will be most apparent is wherever that degree occurs in our birth chart. Saturn will often make us sharply aware of reality and can sometimes seem harsh or negative, bringing us back down to earth with a thump. Saturn reminds us of our responsibilities but also gives a reliable stability in what otherwise could be confusion or chaos. Uranus, the opposing force is known for its rebellious and unpredictable influence yet helps us to break out of limiting restrictions. The last sequence of Uranus/Saturn oppositions during 1965-66 gave rise to a cultural revolution. Perhaps we can already see the emergence of a new set of social values that will be the current legacy. The New Moon is always the beginning of a new phase, an inward, reflective time out of which the next phase is born. On a personal level whilst Saturn joins with the Sun and Moon we may need to take time to reflect on our true responsibilities and allow the possibility of renewed commitment. We might get the feeling that we are in for the long haul and that might seem daunting at first. Saturn can also remind us that some of the most valued experiences or successes have taken a long time to manifest, evolve or mature. Like the seasonal harvest a lot of preparation, hard work and personal investment are involved to reap true rewards. The nature of Virgo is to work diligently, ironing out any flaws and nurturing her venture into maturity. With Uranus urging us on to abandon old ways and take a new approach we must remember all great visions for a better future need the careful planning and dedication to a task that the Saturn in Virgo combination is offering us now.

August Astrology Lunar Eclipse 2009

With the strong Astrological influences of the last several weeks it would be hard to find anyone who has not experienced some significant change or upheaval. Now August sees the third in a series of eclipses this summer. Visible from Europe this is a penumbral eclipse, which means that just the edge of the earth's shadow will be crossing the Moon. Expect some instability as the change in the electromagnetic energy surrounding the earth during a Full Moon affects us mentally and neurologically. Full Moon always heightens human emotions making us more openly expressive. It also brings matters to fulfilment and hidden or unconscious issues are brought into the light. The Lunar eclipse further accentuates our emotional responses. This Moon will be in freedom loving Aquarius whilst the Sun is in courageous Leo suggesting we might take a bold step towards greater personal freedom. We may need to explore the critical balance between intimacy and personal space or individual identity and our role alongside others. We may have recently chosen to claim our autonomy at the expense of a close relationship or compromised our sense of personal expression to be part of a group. Whatever the circumstances this Full Moon will show up the failings in those choices, with the chance to review or re-negotiate. Eclipses help correct the course of your life as one phase ends and a new one begins, remember that this is all good and a necessary part of your growth. Any aspect of your life that is not in line with your true life’s purpose will see the most significant change. Where the eclipse falls in your personal chart will show this. Aquarians and Leos are strongly affected. As resistance finally begins to give way you will experience a greater sense of integrity. New and untapped creative possibilities will be revealed as you let go of beliefs that don’t match up with your present version of reality. Redundant ideals or dreams may need to be relinquished. This can sometimes be painful but is necessary. You might experience the feeling of coming to your senses as you realise that what was true for you yesterday is no longer valid and the present is seen in a new light. This is the time to redefine your personality and re-create your self image.

July 2009 Eclipse

The next Full Moon Lunar eclipse is at 16° Capricorn on the 7th July at 9:22am GMT and the next New Moon Solar eclipse is at 30° Cancer on the 22nd July at 2:36am GMT

July has two eclipses: a penumbral (partial) Lunar Eclipse at the Full Moon on 7th and a Total Solar Eclipse at the New Moon on 22nd July. The total solar eclipse is the longest total solar eclipse that will occur in the twenty-first century, lasting about 7 minutes, and will not be seen again until June 13, 2132.
A Lunar Eclipse generally affects us on a personal or inner level whilst the Solar Eclipse will be expressed more openly in the social/political arena. This Lunar Eclipse will be hardly visible and also passes mostly over the Pacific Ocean so its overall affect will be fairly insignificant. The more visible an eclipse is, the more powerful its effects. The July event has a broad pathway that will be visible to allow millions of people in Asia and the Pacific making it of particular significance. During the total eclipse, the path of the Moon's dark umbral shadow moves over India, China, several Japanese islands and the South Pacific Ocean, whilst a partial eclipse is seen within the much broader path of the Moon's penumbral shadow, which includes most of eastern Asia, Indonesia, and the Pacific Ocean. It won’t be visible to us in Northern Europe. When Solar eclipses pass over populated areas they appear to have significant disruptive effects (economic or political crises, civil unrest) on those people and nations. Afghanistan, Pakistan, North India, and East Asia are particular potential flashpoints. Historically, eclipses have been seen as omens and harbingers of huge collective shifts by these cultures. Severe weather patterns, storms and earthquakes often occur in the affected areas following a Solar Eclipse. This is the first Solar Eclipse along the Cancer-Capricorn axis in many years and echoes the themes of Pluto in Capricorn, sweeping changes occur as old systems fall short and focussed effort to bring about positive social and political reforms is needed to replace them. Uranus trines the eclipse point adding to the unpredictability and uncertainty about how we all feel about the great changes ahead. On a personal level an eclipse will have its affect depending on where it falls in your chart. This one on the 22nd occurs in the last degree of Cancer and anyone who has that as their Birthday can expect some influence to be felt. It is a time of endings and beginnings, a rise to glory or and end of an era. The final degree of a zodiac sign traditionally signifies an end, completion or some karmic debt paid off. Anyone who has major personal planets aspected by the Sun or Moon on that day can also expect some changes. Any blocks or resistance could be forced to give way. Those affected will need to think of new ways of handling the issues raised. It can often take several months for the full effect of an eclipse to play out and specific events are often triggered when a transiting planet passes over the same zodiac degree in the following weeks to come.

Summer Solstice 2009 June Full Moon Astrology

June is the month of our midsummer Solstice with the longest days and shortest nights. The Sun moves into the sign of Cancer on the 21st whilst it lingers at its most northerly position for a few days before beginning its return path towards the Winter Solstice point.
This month also sees a lot of planetary jostling as several of the outer planets change their course and some major aspects are formed. June kicks off with both Venus then Mars making a favourable angle to Pluto. The dwarf planet must not be underestimated when assessing its astrological impact. With Pluto we can rightly use the expression “the truth will out”. Since early April and through to September it’s in retrograde motion which means much necessary delving back into the past to expose what has been kept hidden until now. With Venus, our personal values, and Mars, our desire to act, both backing up the call “to come clean” we are likely to see more disreputable revelations surrounding our institutions and authority figures. Saturn, also known to some as “Lord of Karma” can signify our past deeds catching up with us. In late May he started his forward motion for the first time this year which starts the process of reckoning and utilising what we have learnt over these difficult few months. With the Full Moon on the 7th in a challenging 90 degree angle with Saturn there could be a general feeling of doubt or insecurity as things come to a head and what might have been considered trustworthy in the past is now seen as rather dubious yet we are still unsure as to how we should go forward. Neptune, master of illusion, deception and idealism started its apparent backward motion at the end of May. Mighty Jupiter also turns retrograde on the 15th continuing the conjunction with Neptune (as discussed last month). This planetary retracing of steps occurs until autumn, allowing us more time to reflect on what’s being highlighted, particularly around those in powerful public positions, ensuring a more lasting and long term consequence from what arises now.
The Month plays out with Uranus the bringer of change, revolution and innovation starting its backwards motion, traveling once more into an opposition to steady Saturn, ongoing during the past year and into 2010. As we struggle to find a balance between constancy and chaos the tension can be felt on a personal level and observed globally as social/political events unfold. Traditions and established attitudes left unchallenged leads to entrenchment in outmoded values whilst ill considered radical reform or divergence can create instability and confusion. Such are the challenges currently faced by us as individuals and as nations.

Neptune & Jupiter conjunct Chiron in Aquarius May 2009

For Astrologers the headline news this month is the gathering together of Neptune, Jupiter and Chiron for a triple conjunction at 27 degrees of Aquarius on 27 May. This configuration has been building over the last several months and will continue in influence through to 2011. Strongly affecting people born between February 12 -16 who have their Sun placed there, it will also be particularly significant for anyone with planets at 27 degrees of Aquarius, Leo, Taurus and Scorpio.
Chiron, discovered in 1977 is actually thought to be a comet on a long term visit to our corner of the universe but manages to play a powerful role in Astrology nonetheless. Mythical Chiron was a centaur. Wounded accidentally by his fellows and despite being a talented healer, much sought after by the Gods, he was unable to heal himself and suffered immense pain. To alleviate him the Gods allowed him to sacrifice his immortality and become human so he could die. He was then gifted new immortality by being placed amongst the stars. Chiron in our natal charts signifies a personal lesson which teaches compassion and empathy via suffering. It is often from our most deeply wounding experiences that we learn what it means to be human.
Jupiter combined with Neptune occurs roughly every 12 years and can feel like a gift from the Gods. Idealistic, visionary Neptune together with benevolent, expansive Jupiter sounds like a recipe for our wildest dreams to be realised. But there can be an impracticable delusory side to Neptune and optimistic Jupiter can have us overreaching our capabilities. Historically this pair joined with Chiron in 1114 and in 1881and most recently in Libra in September 1945. These were years of massive social change but only after much conflict and hardship. The end of the World War followed the detonation of two atomic bombs. Perhaps it is only when things get taken to their extremes (Jupiter) that we come to our senses (Neptune).
This time round the planets are lining up in the altruistic sign of the social reformer, Aquarius. Positioned here we can expect to see situations where individual needs have been sacrificed for the greater good but also that things have gone too far and lost integrity. When Chiron is involved it implies a need to sacrifice one thing so something greater can be received. The planets suggest that through an empathy brought about by shared suffering we will seek new opportunities to fulfil our dreams and visions for more socially equal common future.

The next Full Moon is at 19° Scorpio on the 9 May at 6:02 am and the New Moon is at 3° Gemini on the 24 May at 2:12 pm

Sun in Aries Full Moon in Libra relationship focus April 2009

The Full Moon in Libra is of special importance each year being the first Full Moon following the Vernal (spring) equinox. Its significance is tied in with celebrations of spring and renewal whilst the date of Easter is always the first Sunday after this Full Moon. The annual position of the Sun in Mars ruled Aries and the Moon in Venus ruled Libra creates a relationship polarity and potential conflict of interests. If you know where 20° Libra falls in your chart you can examine the way this will affect you personally. Restless Full Moon energy can accentuate any social undercurrents or bring unconscious feelings to our attention. Any strong individual expression of the unique self as symbolised by the Sun is further strengthened by the independent assertiveness of Aries. At the same time our receptive, empathic and emotional qualities symbolised by the Moon are focused on harmonious relationships through Libra. This difficult paradox of self-interest versus social equilibrium is tempered this year by a very positive influence from Jupiter in Aquarius. The large planet urges us towards greater freedom but also to actions which are beneficial and brimming with good will to others. We can expect to see attempts to consider society’s collective needs whilst maintaining our valued freedom of self expression. We have another positive trend this month with Venus playing a leading role. She signifies our personal values and therefore what (or who) we are attracted to. Ruling Taurus she represents our relationship with the physical world. As ruler of Libra she brings social relationships into focus. Whilst she currently appears to travel backwards and then revisits the ethereal, sensitive and compassionate sign of Pisces on the 11th our hearts desires are being reviewed. A week later she turns to start her forward motion once more and moves into Aries on the 24th where she can now take on any opposition with fearless determination. For a few days around the 27th she can be seen rising just before the dawn at her brightest this year. After the Sun and Moon Venus is the next brightest celestial body.
Potential flash points this month: in particular the 15th sees feisty Mars conjoined with rebellious Uranus in Pisces. This volatile energy could spark some sudden action with little thought for the consequences. Tempers flare whilst explosive outbursts, unexpected rifts or accidents are all possible. Later in the month power struggles abound around the New Moon as the Sun connects with Pluto and Pluto is challenged by Mars. This suggests that seeking a position of control is uppermost in setting the scene for the May Full Moon.

The next Full Moon is at 20° Libra on 9 April at 4:56 pm and the next New Moon is at 5° Taurus on 25 April at 5:24 am

March Full Moon 2009 lines up with Saturn Opposite Uranus

Full Moon creates the Sun opposite Moon “pull” which gives the monthly energy peak we’ve become accustomed to. “Full Moon madness” is well documented in science and medicine as heightened mental and physical activity experienced by many, often as restlessness and increased energy. This Full Moon is combined with the extra ingredient of the mighty Saturn Uranus opposition, now a hallmark of the current global disruption. The reflective Moon represents the mood of the masses as well as our own personal emotional or instinctual responses. In close contact with the sobering influence of Saturn we could easily find ourselves feeling a bit “world weary”. From lack of energy or resources we might be inclined towards simply maintaining the tried and tested, safe, secure, familiar lifestyle. In complete contrast the Moon, our mood, is opposed by Uranus, known for its disruptive influence. Expect to feel erratic mood swings or sudden changes of heart as situations present their many different facets. There’s still more to add to this stimulating planetary pattern. Our Sun is symbolic of the powerful life force that drives us forward whilst illuminating our world. Unsentimental Uranus frees us from the restraining dictates of obsolete habits, traditions and falsehoods. When the vitality of the Sun is closely combined with the dramatic severing energy of Uranus we have a very potent dynamic which can break through ingrained inertia. Their exact conjunction occurs on the 13th, prolonging the effect of the heightened energy over several days. Two weeks later, when the Moon has caught up and joined with the Sun once more at New Moon we can expect to have seen some changes whether minor or major, personal or global. As the Moon is “swallowed up” in the light of the Sun and becomes invisible to us at New Moon, both the great luminaries are joined by an assertive Venus in Aries. Use this influence to reassess what’s best for your own well being. Sort out your priorities and personal values. Then be prepared to communicate this new information to those who need to know as Mercury the messenger flits by both Venus and the Sun whilst being challenged by a strong angle from the Moon at the end of the month.

February Astrology

Several interesting Astronomical events occur this month. Astrologers study the relationship between the cosmic occurrences and activities or trends taking place on planet earth. Because the movement of the planets can be calculated with great accuracy we can compare them to centuries of historical hindsight. What can’t be calculated is the appearance of comets which have been gone for so long that human beings weren’t even walking upright the last time it passed by! This is the case with Comet Lulin, discovered in 2007. Traditionally comets are considered portents or omens of great changes or important new eras. Lulin has been around the “back” of the Sun and will be passing at its closest to earth in February. Early in the month the comet rises around midnight. Lulin is expected to reach its peak of brightness on the night of 23rd as it passes south west of Saturn. Watch for it rising in the eastern sky ahead of the Sun, before the dawn. It may be visible to the naked eye where there’s no light pollution. On the 27th the comet will pass just south of Regulus, the brightest star in the constellation Leo, the Lion, considered by Astrologers to be the star of “Kings”.
We also have a Lunar Eclipse on the 9th. It’s not total and won’t give much of a show. It’s most visible over Western Canada and Western USA, Alaska, Hawaii, Australia, and East Asia. Solar eclipses which can only occur at New Moon strongly influences socio-political arenas whereas a Lunar eclipse which happens at Full Moon is generally much more personalised and will be felt in our emotional responses. This can signify a change in the “mood” or attitude of the population as a whole. An eclipse is often precursor to some kind of crisis, which actually means ‘a critical decision or point of change’. The timing can be either before or after the actual Eclipse, triggered by another significant planet passing over the same degree. Mars the planet of assertiveness, drive, desire and conflict touches this point on the 2nd March which might just be the day when a contentious issue is brought to a head.
As distraction from daily concerns, take advantage of the cold clear night skies to see Venus as she continues to shine stunningly throughout February. Look for the large, very bright "star" in the southwest after sunset. Jupiter, Mars and Mercury line up about 30 minutes before sunrise on 22nd with the waning crescent moon just to their right. Watch for the new crescent moon near Venus in the western sky after sunset from the 27th.

January Astrology Trends

Despite all the gloom of deep winter the movement of Jupiter into Aquarius on the 5th January blew an optimistic breeze into the New Year. After the bold and buoyant opportunist planet has laboured hard through careful and diligent Capricorn these past couple of years, a welcome fresh sense of liberation and hope is again possible. With all the difficult and uncomfortable events that are occurring around the world Jupiter’s new position offers a vital potential for change. As retrograde Mercury bumps backwards into Jupiter on 18th we get a chance to revisit our personal goals for the year, review our hopes and ambitions and maybe come up with some inventive ways of achieving them. There is plenty more energy around later this month to get the inventor or innovator in you working as feisty Mars tunes in to the Saturn Uranus opposition that we’ve been getting to know about lately. This combined planetary effect suggests a time to really begin to move things forward and out of a rut. Again we will be shown what really isn’t working for us as a human race here on planet earth and the time is nigh to start doing something about it. The New Moon in Aquarius on the 26th is also the first of two solar eclipses occurring this year. Traditionally this signifies a time to close one door and open another. In altruistic Aquarius we have the prompt to design something quite visionary for our collective future. If you are still mulling over details at the end of the month you might find the pace notches up a gear when Mercury starts its forward motion once more on the 1st February, just in time for St Brigid’s day!
